Pregnancy: An Easier Journey for Allyson Felix

Pregnancy: An Easier Journey for Allyson Felix

Allyson Felix, the 11-time Olympic medalist, is relishing her current pregnancy, describing it as a serene experience. In an exclusive interview with TMZ Sports, Felix expressed her joy at not having to worry about training or the chaos that often accompanies high-level athletic competition. The track and field star, who became an advocate for maternal protections in women’s sports following her first pregnancy, is now retired from the sport and finds herself more at ease during this pregnancy.

During her first pregnancy, Felix faced a difficult ordeal when she lost sponsorship money, which left her feeling abandoned and unsupported. However, with her retirement, she now feels a remarkable sense of calm throughout the process, particularly because early wake-up calls and demanding training regimens are no longer a part of her daily routine. Reflecting on the stark contrast, Felix remarked, “It’s totally different. I wasn’t dealing with all the drama from before. Now, yeah, I don’t have to train at 4 o’clock in the morning and do all that crazy stuff, so that part is good.”

Allyson Felix and her husband, American sprinter Kenneth Ferguson, joyfully announced that they are expecting their second child in April 2024. Five years after Felix’s terrifying encounter with her first pregnancy, which required an emergency C-section due to pre-eclampsia development at 32 weeks, the couple delightedly shared that they are having a boy. Felix reflects on the risks and challenges she faced during her previous pregnancy, expressing a newfound knowledge and understanding of the process. With a sense of relief, she states, “I know a lot now, and I kinda know the risks and everything that I experienced before. So, that part, you know, that part is better.”

The traumatic experience of her first pregnancy has inspired Felix to become a vocal advocate for expecting black women. Research has unveiled the prevalence of racial bias within the healthcare system, and Felix is determined to address this injustice. Alongside her involvement in her shoe company, Spaysh, Felix is actively working as a member of the IOC Athletes Commission to support track stars like herself. Her goal is to ensure that pregnant athletes, particularly those who are Black, receive the necessary support and equal treatment they deserve.

Amidst her various commitments, Felix also shared her thoughts on fellow track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson. Despite their previous disagreements, Felix had nothing but positive remarks to make about Richardson, who has garnered attention in the track and field world since her controversial incident at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Felix’s newfound perspective and personal growth have allowed her to focus on supporting and uplifting her fellow athletes, erasing any remnants of their past issues.

Allyson Felix’s pregnancy journey this time around is a far cry from her previous experience. With no training obligations or external pressures, she can fully embrace the joys of her impending motherhood. Empowered by her traumatic past, Felix continues to raise awareness about the challenges faced by pregnant athletes, particularly those who are Black, and actively works towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment within the sports industry. As she transitions into this new chapter of her life, Felix serves as an inspiration to expectant mothers, proving that even amidst adversity, one can find strength, resilience, and joy.
