Shania Twain Wishes Brad Pitt a Playful Happy Birthday

Birthdays are always a special occasion, even for celebrities like Brad Pitt. And when you’re a Hollywood icon, you can expect some extra special birthday greetings. Shania Twain, the talented singer behind the hit song “You’re Still The One,” took to Instagram on December 18 to wish Brad Pitt a happy 60th birthday in her own playful way. Referencing her iconic 1997 song where she famously name-dropped Pitt, Shania commented, “That don’t impress me much, but HBD,” accompanied by a kissy face emoji. It’s not the first time that Shania has acknowledged Brad’s birthday, as she made a similar exception for Pitt’s 58th birthday in 2020 on Twitter. It seems that Shania enjoys adding a twist to her birthday wishes for the Hollywood heartthrob.

In her chart-topping song, Shania sings, “Okay, so you’re Brad Pitt / That don’t impress me much.” While the lyrics might suggest a personal connection between the two, it turns out that Shania and Brad don’t actually have a personal relationship beyond these occasional birthday acknowledgments. In fact, Shania revealed during an interview on Chicken Shop Date in March that she has never met Brad Pitt. She jokingly shared, “I think he’s avoiding me, honestly.” It’s intriguing to think that two celebrities who share a lyrical connection have never crossed paths in person.

Despite being name-dropped in Shania’s hit song, Brad Pitt has never directly commented on the mention. In a 2017 interview with Extra, when the song experienced renewed popularity, Shania shared, “He didn’t at the time. So 20 years later, I don’t know.” It’s interesting to ponder why Brad has chosen not to address being included in the catchy lyrics. Perhaps he wanted to let the song speak for itself and didn’t feel the need to comment on it. Or maybe he simply didn’t have a reaction to it. Either way, it adds a layer of mystery to their connection, or lack thereof.

The inclusion of Brad Pitt in Shania’s song was actually inspired by a scandal in 1997. At that time, Pitt sued Playgirl magazine for publishing nude photos of him and then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow. Clarifying her intentions, Shania explained in a 2017 interview with Billboard, “I was writing this album and there was a scandal where there were naked photos…and this was like, all the rage. I just thought, ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about. We see naked people every day.'” It’s clear that Shania’s inclusion of Brad in the lyrics was not meant as a jab at the actor but rather a commentary on the media’s obsession with scandals and nudity.

Shifting gears, let’s focus on Shania’s personal life. The singer is happily married to Frédéric Thiébaud since January 1, 2011. Their love story is quite unique and unexpected. It was revealed that Shania’s previous husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, was having an affair with Frédéric’s then-wife and Shania’s assistant, Marie-Anne. When their worlds collided, Shania and Frédéric found solace in each other and eventually fell in love. Now, they share a passionate and fulfilling relationship. In an interview with The Guardian, Shania expressed, “It’s a passionate love on every level. I used to be very monotone in my relationships.” She found a new level of connection and understanding with Frédéric, and she believes that her previous husband never truly knew her.

While Shania Twain and Brad Pitt may not have a personal connection beyond the occasional birthday shoutouts, their indirect relationship through lyrics and media attention is an intriguing aspect of their celebrity lives. Shania’s playful birthday wishes for Brad showcase her sense of humor and the ongoing impact of her hit song. As for Brad, his lack of direct reaction to being mentioned suggests a certain indifference or perhaps a desire to let the song stand on its own. Regardless, both Shania and Brad continue to make headlines in their respective careers, leaving fans curious about their connection, or lack thereof, for years to come.
