Princess Eugenie, alongside her friend and colleague Julia de Boinville, took to social media to share a powerful New Year’s resolution. The duo, who co-founded The Anti-Slavery Collective, uploaded a video on Instagram Stories emphasizing the importance of combating modern slavery and raising awareness. In their passionate plea, Julia highlighted the need for everyone to make it their resolution, while Eugenie shed light on the fact that modern slavery remains a hidden crime. It could be happening right under our noses, within the people we interact with daily, such as the cleaner in our office or the person who does our nails. Eugenie urged everyone to be vigilant and keep their eyes open.
Princess Eugenie and Julia de Boinville established The Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017 after a life-changing trip to India. The friends had met on a school trip and felt a deep connection. Following their journeys around the world, they attended Newcastle University together, and their careers brought them closer. In 2012, their trip to Kolkata introduced them to the shocking reality of modern slavery. Witnessing the extent to which slavery still persisted, they were propelled into action. Determined to end human trafficking, they decided to set up their charity.
Over the years, Princess Eugenie has dedicated herself to promoting the work of The Anti-Slavery Collective. In November 2023, she hosted the inaugural gala for the organization. The event was attended by members of her family, including Princess Beatrice, cousin Zara Tindall, and her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York. Held at the Battersea Arts Centre, the gala featured captivating performances from musicians Ed, The London Essentials, and Dream—a choir consisting of modern slavery survivors formed through music therapy sessions provided by The Salvation Army. The funds raised during the event contribute to the charity’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about modern slavery. Additionally, the organization aims to build partnerships and develop solutions to drive positive and lasting change.
Eugenie expressed her concern over the staggering number of enslaved men, women, and children in the world today, emphasizing that it surpasses any other point in history. For her, making a difference and leaving a lasting impact has always been the goal. She called upon various stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, policy makers, journalists, academics, NGOs, companies, individuals, and survivors, to collaborate and share ideas. Combating human trafficking and modern slavery requires collective efforts and a holistic approach.
During the gala, Princess Eugenie captivated attendees with her stunning appearance. She donned a floor-length black satin gown, accentuated with a thigh-grazing split, glitzy buttons, and ruched detailing. Her chestnut tresses were styled in a side part, and she completed her look with a delicate creamy pink lipstick.
Princess Eugenie’s New Year’s resolution to combat modern slavery and raise awareness is a testament to her dedication to making a difference. Through The Anti-Slavery Collective, she continues to shine a light on the hidden crime of modern slavery, urging individuals from all walks of life to stay vigilant. With her efforts and the support of the collective, there is hope for positive and lasting change in the fight against human trafficking.
