The Royal Reunion: Princess Anne and Prince Albert Attend IOC Session Together

Princess Anne, also known as The Princess Royal, and Prince Albert of Monaco had a delightful reunion just weeks after their joint attendance at the Rugby World Cup. The Princess, aged 73, traveled to Mumbai, India earlier this week to participate in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session. During the three-day event, she had the pleasure of being seated next to Prince Albert, the head of state of Monaco.

Known for her impeccable style, Princess Anne caught the attention not only due to her royal status but also for her trademark bouffant hairstyle. On the first day of the session, she was spotted carrying a stylish autumnal cherry red tote bag. Such attention to detail only added to her regal presence and commanded respect from those around her.

Both Princess Anne and Prince Albert have left their mark in the Olympics, making their attendance at the IOC Session all the more meaningful. Princess Anne made history as the first member of the British royal family to compete in the Olympics. In 1976, she participated in the equestrian three-day event at the Montreal Games, riding the late Queen’s horse, Goodwill. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall won a silver medal as part of Team GB’s eventing team at the London 2012 Olympics.

Prince Albert’s Olympic journey is equally impressive. He represented Monaco in the bobsleigh team at five consecutive Olympic Winter Games between 1988 and 2002, including appearances in Calgary, Albertville, Lillehammer, Nagano, and Salt Lake City. Notably, Prince Albert’s wife of 12 years, Princess Charlene, is also a former Olympic swimmer. She represented South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Games, achieving a commendable fifth-place finish in the 4 x 100-metre medley relay.

The IOC Session provided an opportunity to discuss upcoming Olympic Games. Paris was announced as the host city for the 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th. Additionally, during the 141st session, it was decided that five new sports would be officially included in the programme for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. These exciting additions are baseball/softball, cricket (T20), flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash.

The reunion of Princess Anne and Prince Albert at the IOC Session showcased their shared passion for the Olympic movement. Their respective legacies in the Olympics, along with their continued involvement, have firmly established the royal duo as ambassadors for sports and unity on an international stage. As they continue to support and promote upcoming Olympic events, their presence enhances the excitement and anticipation surrounding these global celebrations of athleticism.
